Second Half Goals End Women's Soccer Season

Two second half goals proved to be the difference makers in the Region IX quarterfinals, with the Northwest women’s team on the wrong end of a 2-0 loss on the road to Otero on Friday.

Early on in the match the No. 8 seeded Trappers (2-13) started early on absorbing pressure from the No. 1 seeded Rattlers (9-1-1).

Constant corners and shots kept Otero on the front foot, leaving Northwest searching for answers midway through the half.

An injury to a Rattler allowed the Trappers to regroup and find movement forward to try and find an opening goal.

After a short period of time, Otero regained control and found chances again.

Despite the constant pressure, the match was tied 0-0 at the half.

Coming out of the break, the pressure ramped back up on Northwest — this time Otero broke through.

Another corner found its way onto the head of an Otero attacker to make it 1-0 just six minutes into the half.

Five minutes later, a bouncing ball off a deflected shot was misread by Northwest keeper Audette Rodolph and trickled its way into the net.

Northwest was unable to find any shots to truly test the Otero keeper, seeing the 2022 season come to an end.
