Simao named women's soccer player of the week

National Honor A First For Trapper Program

Northwest College sophomore Simhia Simao was named the National Junior College Athletic Association’s national player of the week for the week of Sept. 12. The honor was the first national award bestowed upon a member of the Trapper women’s team, which is in its third year of competition.

Simao, a native of Belo Horizonte, Brazil, scored a hat trick with three goals against North Idaho in a 4-2 Trapper victory. Simao assisted on the only goal she didn’t score in that contest.

Less than 24 hours later, Simao was back in action with a pair of goals and two more assists during Northwest’s 7-4 victory over Salt Lake. Simao was the team’s leading goal scorer a season ago as a freshman.

The award marks the second time in less than a week that a Northwest College student athlete has been honored at the national level by the NJCAA. Freshman volleyball player Ana Jakovljevic was named the national player of the week last week as well.
