The Northwest College wrestling team proved itself against some stiff competition from four states in Saturday’s NWC Open in the Cabre Gym.

Trapper wrestlers sixth at nationals
The Northwest College Trappers crowned four new All-Americans, including a national runner-up, and added to their string of consecutive top 10 national finishes at the NJCAA national wrestling championships in Des Moines, Iowa, over the weekend. The Trappers finished sixth as a team, marking the 19th consecutive year the team has finished among the top 10 programs nationally.

Trappers depart for Iowa
Hoping to avoid the travel= drama that plagued the team’s journey to the 2012 national championships, head coach Jim Zeigler and the seven national tournament qualifiers from the third-ranked Northwest College wrestling team departed for Des Moines, Iowa, hoping to beat the arrival of a major winter storm expected to slam the nation’s heartland.

Magnificent seven
The third-ranked Northwest College wrestling team captured one weight class title and qualified seven competitors for next week’s NJCAA national championship event at the West regional tournament in Portland, Ore. The Trappers placed third as a team behind No. 1 North Idaho and No. 4 Clackamas in the final standings.

Trappers shine at Apodaca Duals
The seventh-ranked Northwest College Trappers put on a show for the home crowd at the 2013 installment of the Apodaca Duals, taking down No. 3 Clackamas (31-16) and No. 11 Iowa Central (36-9). The Trappers also had a showdown with No. 1 North Idaho, in which they fell by a 27-12 final count after having to surrender 12 points to forfeits in the upper two weight classes.
