In a dual meet conducted at Billings West High School Tuesday, Dec. 4, the Northwest College Trappers fell to the University of Great Falls by a 31-18 margin.

According to NWC assistant coach Cort Petersen, a pair of forfeits and a number of pins that went in favor of the Argos proved to be the difference in the outcome. Petersen currently is at the helm of the Trappers while head coach Jim Zeigler is away on family medical leave.

"Giving up two weight classes (165 and 184) hurt us," Petersen said. "That, plus not wrestling well was too much for us to overcome. We had several guys get pinned, and you just can't let that happen at the collegiate level."

During the meet, the Trappers claimed four victories. Freshman Eddie Whiting won via forfeit at 125, and sophomore Luis Carranza defeated his opponent 9-3 in the133-pound weight class.

"Luis was definitely one of the bright spots for us," Petersen said. "He wrestled well, and that was a good win for him."

NWC's other victories came in the bouts at 149 and 285. At 149, freshman Briston Brenton collected the victory, and at 285, Trapper freshman Landon Harris won via pin.

As for NWC's setbacks, freshmen McCade Ford (141), Tyler Jones (157) and Tyrell Wright (174) all lost via pins. At 197, freshman Mak Jones lost by a decision.

Also last week, the Trappers competed in a series of matches during a road trip through Iowa. For results, see the Thursday, Dec. 11, edition of the Powell Tribune.
