Trapper basketball players Ricardo Bodra and Kati Oliverson were honored by Northwest College last Wednesday evening by being named the male and female Trapper Award winners for the 2009- 2010 academic year. The awards were the highlight of the evening’s athletic award ceremony.

“The Trapper Awards are voted on by the coaches of all the various athletic teams on campus,” said Trapper women’s basketball coach Janis Beal. “I think both Kati and Ricardo are true examples of what the Trapper Award is all about. Not only have they represented the college well on the court, but they’ve done a great job with the way they represent themselves on campus and throughout the community. They represent the athletic department well.”

This marks the third spring that Northwest College has gathered together its various sports teams for end-of-the-year recognition. Each athletic team, as well as the training staff and athletic department support staff, took a turn in recognizing its letter winners and other sport-specific awards.

The night culminated with the announcement of the male and female athletes of the year and the Trapper Award recipients.

For the second consecutive year, the male athlete of the year award went to heavyweight wrestler Landon Harris. Harris earned national champion honors this past wrestling season as he earned All-American status for a second consecutive year. Harris plans to retire from the sport of wrestling and focus on his academic work as part of the college’s nursing program.
