NWC Wrestling Heads To Nationals

Eight Northwest College wrestlers have made their way to Council Bluffs, Iowa, to take part in the NJCAA Wrestling Championships on Friday and Saturday.

Half of the Trapper wrestlers are top 10 seeds while the rest will head in unseeded.

The brackets for all eight wrestlers have been released, with Kaiden Rubash receiving a first round bye before facing either Matt Lobardo from Garrett College out of Maryland or John Kenney from Northwest Kansas Tech at 133 pounds.

Caleb Nadig also received a first round bye as the No. 9 seeded wrestler at 149 pounds, and will face either Felix Mendes out of Lackawanna College in Pennsylvania or Brady Holien from Ridgewater College out of Minnesota.

Jack Lounsbury will face Noah Smith from Carl Albert State College out of Oklahoma in the second round at 157 pounds after both wrestlers received opening round byes.

Orrin Jackson will head in as the No. 10 seed at 165 pounds, taking on Cole Stuchal from Garrett College.

Jesse Thornton received a first round bye at 174 pounds, but will match up with the top seed Otgonbayar Batsuuri from Northwest Kansas Tech in the second round.

Aziz Fayzullaev will have the top seed at 184 pounds, taking on Noah Ripley out of Sussex County Community College in New Jersey.

Josh Womack will battle against Xander Kenworthy from North Iowa Area Community College in the first round at 197 pounds. The winner will advance to take on the No. 14-seed Soloman Luna from Otero Junior College out of Colorado.

At 285 pounds, Cody Pinkerton is the No. 2 seed and will take on Tylahn Ladd out of Triton College in Illinois in the second round.

Those in the second round will need to win four straight to win a national title, as the tournament will take place over Friday and Saturday in a double elimination format.
