POWELL, WYOMING – On Thursday, May 1, the Northwest College Photographic Communications program is hosting a demonstration and workshop highlighting the latest techniques in food photography, including preparation, lighting, styling, and more. The event will take place in the photographic communications studios inside the Fagerberg Building from 10 a.m. to noon, and 1 to 2:30 p.m.
Leading the event is Brie Goldman, the owner of Brie Goldman Photography and staff photographer for Dotdash Meredith Corporation in Des Moines, Iowa, and Sammy Mila, a freelance stylist and owner of the bakery Crème.
Goldman grew up in Montana before completing a degree in Photography at Northwest College in December 2004. Goldman then moved to New York City on the recommendation of NWC faculty member Anthony Polvere, and after 13 years working almost entirely in a freelance role, she accepted a job with Dotdash Meredith Corporation in Des Moines.
A staff photographer with Dotdash Meredith for the last seven years, Goldman has won the IACP award for best food photography twice. She works alongside four other photographers and regularly photographs for Food & Wine, AllRecipes Magazine, Better Homes & Gardens, Martha Stewart, Walmart along with many more marketing campaigns.
Mila is a culinary specialist and food stylist from Des Moines, Iowa who made her debut in the food scene after graduating from Iowa State University with a degree in Culinary Science in 2013. She started her career at Dotdash Meredith by developing recipes and working in the test kitchen.
Mila eventually migrated to the photo studio of the company and pioneered “hands and pans” food videos for brands such as Food and Wine, AllRecipes, Eating Well, and Better Homes and Gardens. She now does freelance food styling while owning and operating her bakery.
To join the live demonstrations in the photographic communications studios, RSVP by Tuesday, April 29 to jen.litterer-trevino@nwc.edu.
